Provide examples of organisms that use different strategies to survive in cold weather and explain why you think one might be a better method than the other.
1. Polar bears - Hibernation.
Polar bears are highly adapted to the freezing climate. They have thick fur and an insulating fatty body to survive in cold climate. But in winter, it become extremely difficult to survive. So in that time, the bear undergoes hibernation or winter sleep. During this, the bear will be in a state of sleep with most of the body functions are down to optimum and the energy loss is minimum. Before hibernation bear eat as much as he can so that he can survive the winter without any further food. Any other animals also posses hibernation to survive winter.
2. Arctic tern - Migration
Arctic tern is a migratory bird which fly very large distances. It nests close to North pole in the summer. In autumn, it flies south all the way to Antarctica. Each spring it returns north again. Migration is seen in large number of bird species and in butterflies.
3. Monkeys- Huddling
When it is extreme cold, these organisms clump together and huddle each other. The young ones will be deep inside so that they will get the warmth from the bodies of the others. The outer ones in the circle will be more exposed to cold and hence they regularly exchange their positions to inside and outside of the huddling circle.
4. Insects- Diapause
It is a temporary developmental arrest in the egg stage. The embryo will be in an arrested stage untill the winter is over. This helps to survive better for the insects.
These are the common methods used by the organisms to survive winter. Of these we can not say which is best because each of them have pros and cons. Migration is a risky process sometimes many of the population may die during the voyage. Hibernation is good for saving energy but during hibernation, animal is prone to predators. Huddling also attracts predator. So all the strategies have pros and cons. Some will be best for some animals and it may not suit for another one.

6. The lipid membranes of organisms that live in extremely cold environments have glycerophospholipids that contain an increased percentage of unsaturated fatty acid tails (as compared to organisms that live in more moderate temperatures). Why would this be the case? Provide an explanation based on the fluidity of the lipid membrane. 7. Given its composition and structure, do you think K" ion or indolewould ) would be able to better move through the lipid membrane? Provide an explanation based on...
1. why is there a need to classify micro organisms. provide and explain at least 2 examples 2. in your opinion which of the eukaryotes have clinical or pathologic significance. 3. in your own words, explain why endosymbiotic theory clashed with or agrees with the theory of evaulation. 4. if you are to be a prokaryote or a eukaryote which one would you be and explain 5. construct an academic easy differentiating prokaryotes and eukaryotes
With examples, explain why you think scientists' observations and interpretations are the same OR different. (This is all the information given for this problem, just looking for a general answer not anything related to a specific chemistry topic)
Think about the different theories that have been used to explain leadership. Note: If you use Trait-based theory, you will be held to a higher standard than other theories! Which theory makes the most sense to you? Why? Explain that theory in a few sentences. Why does it explain leadership effectiveness the best? Based on this theory, what advice would you give to managers that could help them be a better leader? HTML EditorKeyboard Shortcuts
Plants sometimes use other organisms as defences against herbivores. Provide two examples of biological defences used by plants to reduce the negative effects of herbivory. For each of them indicate what are the costs for the plant.
#2 please explain to get a better idea to provide examples. Why would a company be willing to sell its accounts receivable at a discounted amount (i.e., the amount received from the buyer is less than the recorded amount)? Give at least three reasons and explain why.
need answer of ques 3 with examples.
Question 3: Over the past 4-5 weeks we have looked at the educators' roles (observer, prop- manager, provocateur, reflective educator). Based on your experiences in the class workshops, your course readings, and your prior experiences, which of these roles do you think might be your area of strength? Explain why. Also, which of these roles will be the most challenging for you and identify some strategies that you might use to become better?
In Chapter 13, your e-book lists four distinct Global Market Entry Strategies. How you enter the market initially as an international or global marketer is an important early consideration and choosing the right method for that specific market and one that also fits your circumstances is critical. Choose any one of the four entry methods, describe it, and explain why and when you might choose to use that strategy to enter a new market. Provide examples that illustrate your thoughts.
provide 4 examples of standardized assessments and what they measure. After you post your examples, please choose one assessment and explain why you think it is effective.
5. Explain the difference between a Nash equilibrium and a dominant strategies equilibrium. Give an example to show how the prisoners' dilemma helps to explain behaviour. 6. Why might a firm set prices based on a markup above average cost rather than equalising marginal costs and marginal benefits? 7. Using a diagram, explain how an external cost of production (i.e. a negative production externality) can be internalised with a tax. |8. Explain the conditions of price discrimination. Give two examples...
